About Us

Founder of Number Train

Hi, my name is Annette Peterson and I am the founder of Number Train.

Originally from Coventry, I first came to Leeds to study Maths and Management at Leeds University back in 1996.

Following my graduation in 1999, I trained to be a primary school teacher at Warwick University and went on to teach hundreds of children across the primary age-range in three outstanding primary schools.

After teaching for a many years in Coventry and Brixton, I ventured back to Leeds and became a Maths Coordinator before starting a family in 2011.

I am now the proud mother of two gorgeous boys, aged 10 and 12, who keep me busy and entertained!

I will be delivering classes in Horsforth from Sept 2022.

Number Train Driver - North East Leeds

Hi, my name is Becky Rossiter and I am the driver of Number Train for North East Leeds.

Before driving the Number Train, I attended as a parent with my own children who are in Year 2, Reception and preschool.

Originally from Sheffield, I came to Leeds to study Primary Education at Leeds Beckett University in 2005.

After graduating in 2009, I worked as a primary school teacher in East Leeds working across Early Years and Key Stage One until 2021 when I left to spend more time with my own children.

I joined the Number Train team as a driver in Jan 2022 and I love it!! It allows me to enjoy the best bits of teaching in such a fun way and it works around my own family.

I deliver classes in the Headingley, Meanwood, Moortown, Roundhay and Oakwood areas of Leeds.

Number Train Driver - Wetherby and surrounding areas

Hi, my name is Rachel Carr and I am the driver of Number Train for Wetherby and the surrounding areas.

I grew up and lived in Moortown, North Leeds, until I left in 2002 to study Primary Education at Sheffield Hallam University.

After graduating, I returned to live in North Leeds and have worked at the same Primary School in South Leeds, for 18 years, since 2005; teaching a range of year groups from Year 1 to Year 6.

Before driving the Number Train, I attended Annette’s classes as a parent, with the youngest of my 3 daughters. Once she started school, I was thrilled to join the Number Train team as a class leader, in November 2022.

From September 2023, I will be splitting my time between delivering Number Train classes in the Wetherby area and continuing to work as a part- time primary school teacher in a Year 1 class.

Number Train Driver - Otley and Ilkley areas

Hi, my name is Cathryn Smith and I am the driver of Number Train for Otley, Ilkley and surrounding areas.

I grew up locally in Otley, before moving to Horsforth where I now live with my partner Rory and two train mad boys aged 8 and 5!

I worked for many years as a nursery nurse in Ilkley, before training as a primary school teacher at Leeds Beckett University, specialising in Early Years.

After graduating in 2011 I worked across Early Years until 2021, before leaving to spend time with my children, which is when I discovered Number Train, attending classes with my youngest!

After my youngest child went to school I decided I wasn’t ready to leave our favourite preschool group and decided to come on board and drive the Number Train myself, my own children can’t believe it!

I currently teach in school one day a week alongside driving the train, I really am living my best life!

The journey so far...

The idea of Number Train began following Annette's wish to have a change of career and she knew her next role needed to:

- utilise her skills as a teacher
- involve working with children
- include making maths fun
- have the flexibility to work around her family

After attending several preschool classes with her youngest son, Matthew - gymnastics, interactive story telling sessions, swimming and football each week, she saw how much they helped him to prepare for school.

"Each class was great for many different reasons and I certainly enjoyed them as much as he did!!"

However,  over time Annette noticed that although there were many groups on offer, there were very few designed specifically for preschool children and there was nothing for maths!!

And so the cogs started turning ... Number Train began in 2017 and she has NOT looked back!

Now in its seventh year, parents continue to tell us how their child it's their favourite class,  their children are often asking "When are we going to Number Train?" or they  have requested to play the games at home or in public places.

For us, there is nothing more rewarding than hearing this feedback and we wish to keep spreading this love of maths!
